Guided Bird Tours

Guided bird tours by Keith

No ImageFor birdwatchers who wish to make the most of their stay at Finca Limoneros, Keith will guide you to all the best birding sites in the area - in the process visiting the most beautiful scenic spots in the valleys, mountains and lake district of Andalucia.

A complete cross section of terrain may be covered, from the high sierras, cliffs and gorges through wooded river valleys and pine forests to lakes and marshes. Sites visited will be local or within an hour or so's drive of the finca. Itineraries can be tailored to individual interests and preferences.

On a typical day we start at 10am and visit some local areas before venturing further afield. Lunch is usually delicious, cheap tapas in a lakeside bar. In the afternoon we will complete the circuit and head back to the finca around 5pm.

We recognise that not everyone is a fanatic birder and that a day-long tour can be a little too much for some (including, dare I say it, birders' wives). New visitors to the area, though, may benefit from the help of a guide to all the best scenic spots. Tours therefore take advantage of the outstanding natural beauty of the surrounding landscapes, and to some clients the birds turn out to be an incidental bonus!

No ImageTours will feature such mouthwatering sites as this enormous colony of quite unafraid Griffon Vultures, the best of several in the area, and (in season) the 15,000 strong Greater Flamingo breeding ground at Fuente de Piedra.
A good example bird list of species we might expect to encounter - dependent of course on the time of year - can be found by taking this link to Paul Winter's trip report.

For an illustrated and more descriptive account of another guest's birding, see Chris Courtaux's trip report.

More information and trip reports are to found via our main Birdwatching page.

When to come

Spring and autumn are the most productive times, and the winter is also good.

In the spring, March, April and May offer the best weather and the probability of migratory raptors, storks and water birds and passerines on passage.

The summer months of July and early August are best avoided, though June is usually a good month before the heat of the summer really settles in.

Late August, September and October are also good for migration in the other direction as birds return to Africa after breeding, and again the weather is usually excellent.

The winter months November - February offer a wide selection of herons, grebes, ducks and other water birds as the rivers and lakes are at a healthy level through to the spring and summer.

Tour Prices

Tour prices are 100 euros for a full day's birding, for one or two people, and an additional 25 euros for a third person. This includes transport.

Two Centre Bird Tours

For touring birders who wish to cover as many habitats and species as possible during their stay in Andalucia, Finca Limoneros offers the perfect complementary base to the world famous marshland areas of Doñana.

Why not spend a few days birding and relaxing at Finca Limoneros and combine it with a spell at Villamanrique in the heart of the Doñana region, guided by John Butler of Donana Bird Tours. His website is to be found at www.donanabirdtours.com and is a mine of information on every aspect of the subject.

For enquiries and booking two centre tours, either use the form below or send a message via our Contact Us page. Alternatively enquire via John Butler's site.
